Pregnancy Pre and Post Natal Care
The body goes through incredible changes during pregnancy, and pre existing mechanical conditions can be aggravated by these altered conditions. While osteopathic treatment throughout pregnancy is safe, as a rule we normally don't treat in the first trimester.
Treatment has been shown to reduce pain related to pelvic instability, symphisis pubis dysfunction, and altered weight-bearing.
Expectant mums who have osteopathic treatment through their pregnancy report fewer symptoms such as back pain, indigestion and bloating. By treating the pelvis, we also aim to allow for a more comfortable delivery, often with reduced pain and duration of labour.
It is also important to look after mum once baby has arrived. This includes making sure the pelvis returns to normal mechanical function, and also helping the body deal with new challenges such as breast feeding and carrying baby.
