Headaches and Migraines
A large majority of headaches and migraines can be successfully treated with osteopathic medicine.
As well as attending to myofascial trigger points at key areas in the spine and skull, osteopathic treatment will also treat dysfunctional haemodynamics, which in short is the autonomic nervous system shifting causing a congestive state in the circulation.
Normal treatment approaches include hands on treatment, with attention to muscles, connective tissue and the mechanical state of the spine, as well as laser treatment, dry needling and advice on lifestyle/occupational changes to support recovery and prevent further episodes.
In a very small number of cases, headaches and migraines can be symptomatic of other pathology, with this in mind, if you present with headaches and migraines, your osteopath will conduct appropriate tests to exclude to the best of their ability, any other causes for your symptoms, and refer you for further investigations if necessary.
